Eligibility Criteria โ€“ Age, Education & Experience

Candidates must beย Indian citizensย betweenย 18 and 27 years of age. Post-wise essential qualifications are:

Head Constable (Laboratory Assistant):

  • 12th Class pass withย Biology as a subjectย from a recognised Board
  • 1-year Certificate Course in Laboratory Assistantย from a recognised institution
  • Minimumย 1 year working experience as a Lab Assistantย in a Laboratory Diagnostic Centre, hospital, or institution lab recognised by the Central or State Government

Head Constable (Physiotherapy Assistant):

  • 12th Class pass from a recognised Board
  • 1-year Certificate Course in Physiotherapyย from a recognised institute
  • Minimumย 1 year experience as a Physiotherapy Assistantย from a Physiotherapy Centre or a minimum 100-bedded hospital/institution recognised by the Central or State Government

Constable (Nursing Assistant cum Medic)

  • 10th Class pass from a recognised Board
  • First Aid certificate course from St. Johnโ€™s Ambulance Organisation or the Red Cross Society of India
  • Minimumย 1 year experience as a Nursing Assistantย in a minimum 50-bedded Hospital or Institution recognised by the Central or State Government

Selection Process:

The selection process for SSB HC & Constable Medical Recruitment 2026 consists of the following stages:

Stage 1: Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

PET standards differ by post โ€” note that Constable (Nursing Assistant cum Medic) has a longer running distance:

Important PST Notes:

  • Chest measurement is forย male candidates only. Not applicable for females.
  • Height & chest are measured toย one decimal place. For example, 164.9 cm fails the 165 cm standard โ€” no exceptions.
  • Overweight/underweight candidates will be disqualified at theย Detailed Medical Examination (DME)ย stage, not at PST.
  • Candidates claiming height/chest relaxation must submit aย community certificate from the District Authorityย at PST time. Non-production = candidature cancelled.
  • Candidates found unfit at PST mayย appeal on the same dayย through the PST Boardโ€™s Presiding Officer. The appellate decision is final.

Stage 3: Written Examination (Computer-Based Test โ€“ CBT)

The written exam pattern is different for each group of posts. Note the important negative marking rule applicable to all:

For HC (Laboratory Assistant) & HC (Physiotherapy Assistant):

  • Part I (50 Marks):ย General Knowledge, Mathematics, Reasoning, General English/Hindi
  • Part-II (100 Marks):ย Technical Subject

For Constable (Nursing Assistant cum Medic):

  • Duration:ย 2 hoursย | Total Marks:ย 100ย | 100 MCQ objective-type questions
  • Subjects: General Knowledge, Mathematics, Reasoning, General English/Hindi

Marking Scheme (Applicable to All Posts):

  • +1 markย for each correct answer
  • -0.25 marksย (negative marking) for each incorrect answer
  • 0 marksย for unanswered questions

Final meritย for all posts is prepared based on marks obtained in the written examination (Common Entrance Test) only.

Stage 4: Documentation, DME & Review Medical Examination (RME)

Candidates up toย 3 times the number of vacanciesย (category-wise) from the written exam merit will be called for document verification, followed by Detailed Medical Examination.

Final Selection Tie-breaking Rules

  • For HC (Lab Assistant) & HC (Physiotherapy Assistant): candidate with higher Part-II (Technical Subject) marks is ranked higher โ†’ then senior in age โ†’ then alphabetical order of name (English)
  • For all three posts: in case of a tie in marks, the older candidate is ranked higher โ†’ then alphabetical order of name in English
