UPSC Recruitment Notification 2026: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released Advertisement No. 11/2026 inviting online applications for recruitment to 212 vacancies across various Central Government departments and the Administration of the UT of Ladakh. The vacancies include Specialist Grade III Assistant Professor, Assistant Editor, Specialist Grade II, Assistant Public Prosecutor, and Public Law Officer/District Litigation Officer/Law Officer posts.

Eligible candidates can submit their applications through the UPSC Online Recruitment Application portal. Online applications start on 12 September 2026. The normal closing date is 2 October 2026, while applications for the post under the UT of Ladakh will remain open until 9 October 2026.

Educational Qualification:

Specialist Grade III Assistant Professor – Anatomy

• Candidates must possess an appropriate postgraduate qualification in Anatomy, such as MS (Anatomy), MD (Anatomy), DNB (Anatomy) or other specified equivalent qualifications.
• Applicants must also have at least three years of teaching experience as Senior Resident, Tutor, Demonstrator, Registrar, Assistant Professor or Lecturer in the concerned speciality after obtaining the first postgraduate degree.

Specialist Grade III Assistant Professor – General Medicine

Candidates must possess:

• A recognized MBBS degree, and
• MD (Medicine)/MD (General Medicine)/DNB (Medicine or General Medicine) from a recognized teaching institution.

At least three years of teaching experience in the concerned specialty after obtaining the first postgraduate degree is required.

The pay scale for this post is Level-11 plus NPA under the 7th CPC. The upper age limits are 40 years for UR/EWS, 43 years for OBC and 45 years for SC/ST candidates, with further relaxation for eligible PwBD candidates.

Assistant Editor Qualification

Candidates should possess either:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism or Mass Communication from a recognized university/institute; or
• Bachelor’s degree with Economics, Statistics or English as a subject along with at least a one-year Diploma in Journalism or Mass Communication.

Candidates must also have three years’ experience in editing and publishing work in a publishing house, newspaper, news agency, publicity organization or government organization.

The post carries Level-7 in the Pay Matrix. The age limit is 30 years for UR and 35 years for SC candidates.

Specialist Grade II – Anaesthesiology

Candidates must possess a recognized medical qualification along with the prescribed postgraduate degree/diploma in Anaesthesiology.

Experience required:

• 3 years after obtaining the postgraduate degree; or
• 5 years after obtaining the postgraduate diploma.

There is 1 ST vacancy, and the age limit for the notified vacancy is 50 years for ST. The pay scale is Level-11 plus NPA.

Specialist Grade II – Pediatrics

Candidates should possess a recognized medical qualification and the prescribed postgraduate qualification such as MD (Paediatrics) or the specified postgraduate diploma qualification.

Applicants must have:

• 3 years’ experience after the postgraduate degree; or
• 5 years’ experience after the postgraduate diploma.

The post carries Level-11 plus NPA, and the notified age limit is 45 years for EWS.

Assistant Public Prosecutor Qualification

Candidates applying for the Assistant Public Prosecutor post must possess:

• Degree in Law from a recognized University/Institute
• Three years’ experience at the Bar

Experience as a Government Advocate is listed as a desirable qualification.

Assistant Public Prosecutor Age Limit

The post carries Level-10 in the Pay Matrix as per the 7th CPC.

The notification also provides a one-time age relaxation mechanism for eligible contractual employees working in the concerned department, subject to the conditions prescribed by UPSC.

Public Law Officer / District Litigation Officer / Law Officer

There are 4 vacancies, all notified under the ST category, in the Law and Justice Department under the Administration of UT of Ladakh. One vacancy is reserved for PwBD candidates.

Qualification

Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Law (Professional or Integrated) from a university established by law in India along with two years of actual practice at the Bar. The practice must be certified by the competent judicial authority specified in the notification.

Age Limit and Salary

• Maximum age: 40 years for ST
• PwBD relaxation: up to 10 years as applicable
• Pay Scale: Level-8 under the 7th CPC

This recruitment is specifically subject to the domicile requirements of the Union Territory of Ladakh, and candidates must possess a valid domicile certificate issued by the competent authority.

SC/ST/PwBD and women candidates are exempt from payment of the application fee. OBC, EWS and unreserved male candidates do not receive fee exemption and must pay the prescribed fee.

Selection Process:

Candidates may be selected through:

1. Shortlisting based on the online application
2. Recruitment Test (RT)/Combined Recruitment Test (CRT), if conducted
3. Interview

UPSC states that candidates shortlisted for interview may be shortlisted based on the information submitted in their application as well as their performance in the Recruitment Test, if one is held.

If a Recruitment Test is held, the notified centres ordinarily include Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Chennai, Delhi, Dispur (Guwahati), Jaipur, Jammu, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Port Blair, Ranchi and Visakhapatnam. For posts under the UT of Ladakh, centres are ordinarily Leh, Kargil, Srinagar and Delhi.

2. Complete Account Creation if you are a new applicant.
3. Complete the Universal Registration process.
4. Fill in the Common Application Form.
5. Select the relevant UPSC Advertisement No. 11/2026 vacancy.
6. Complete the post-specific application form.
7. Upload the required certificates, photograph and other documents.
8. Pay the ₹25 application fee, if applicable.
9. Check all information carefully before final submission.
10. Submit the form and save/print the finally submitted application for future reference.

UPSC’s portal uses separate modules for Account Creation, Universal Registration, Common Application Form and the vacancy-specific application. A Universal Registration Number (URN) is generated for the candidate, while a separate Application Number is generated for each post applied for.

Candidates are not required to send a printed application to UPSC by post or by hand. They should retain the printout and produce it, along with the prescribed documents, when called for interview.
