RRB JE Recruitment 2026: The Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) have released Centralised Employment Notice (CEN) No. 04/2026 for recruitment to various posts of Junior Engineer (JE) and Depot Material Superintendent (DMS) in Indian Railways. A total of 3,993 vacancies are available across different RRBs, Railway Zones and Production Units.

Eligible candidates can submit their applications online from 14 August 2026 to 13 September 2026. The recruitment includes Computer-Based Tests (CBTs), Document Verification and Medical Examination.

Age Limit

The prescribed age is 18 to 33 years, calculated as on 1 January 2027. The notification also provides upper-age relaxation for eligible reserved and special categories.

Age relaxation includes:

• SC/ST: 5 years
• OBC-NCL: 3 years
• PwBD: 10 years for UR/EWS, 13 years for OBC-NCL and 15 years for SC/ST
• Additional relaxations are provided for eligible Ex-Servicemen and certain Railway employees/categories.

Application Fee

• Only candidates who appear in the 1st Stage CBT are eligible for the applicable fee refund.
• The application fee must be paid online through Internet Banking, Debit/Credit Card or UPI.

Selection Process 2026

The recruitment process broadly consists of:

1. 1st Stage Computer Based Test (CBT-I)
2. 2nd Stage Computer Based Test (CBT-II)
3. Document Verification (DV)
4. Medical Examination
5. Empanelment/Appointment

Candidates shortlisted for the 2nd Stage CBT are selected based on normalized CBT-I marks. Normally, candidates up to 15 times the community-wise vacancies are shortlisted for CBT-II, subject to the conditions specified by RRB.

For Document Verification, candidates are shortlisted based on their CBT-II performance and options, with the number of candidates shortlisted being equal to the number of vacancies. Final empanelment is subject to successful Document Verification and the prescribed medical examination.

CBT-I Exam Pattern

Duration: 90 minutes

CBT-I has 100 questions carrying 100 marks. There is negative marking of 1/3 mark for every wrong answer.

CBT-II Exam Pattern

Duration: 120 minutes
For eligible candidates using a scribe: 160 minutes

CBT-II also carries negative marking of 1/3 mark for every wrong answer.

The common sections cover:

• General Awareness
• Current Affairs
• Indian Geography
• Indian History and Freedom Struggle
• Indian Polity and Constitution
• Indian Economy
• Sports
• General Scientific and Technological Developments
• Physics and Chemistry up to 10th-standard CBSE level
• Computer Basics and Applications
• Environment and Pollution Control

Technical questions will be based on the relevant engineering exam group and syllabus prescribed in Annexure-VIII.

Medical Standards

Candidates shortlisted for Document Verification must pass the prescribed medical fitness examination conducted by the Railway Administration. Different posts have different medical standards, including A-3, B-1, B-2 and C-1, as specified in Annexure-A.

Candidates found medically unsuitable for their opted post will not be given an alternative appointment.

Application Modification

Candidates can modify eligible application details from 16 September to 25 September 2026 by paying a ₹250 non-refundable modification fee per modification.

However, the following cannot be changed:

• Registered mobile number
• Registered email ID
• Chosen RRB

No modification requests will be accepted after 25 September 2026.
