UPSC Combined Geo Scientist Recruitment 2027: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the official notification for the Combined Geo-Scientist Examination 2027 for recruitment to various Group A and Group B posts under the Geological Survey of India (GSI) and Central Ground Water Board (CGWB). A total of 127 tentative vacancies have been announced.

The online application process started on 2 September 2026, and eligible candidates can submit their applications up to 22 September 2026 till 6:00 PM. Geologist Group A

Candidates should possess a Master’s Degree in any of the following or other specified relevant disciplines:

Geophysicist / Scientist B (Geophysics)

Candidates should possess an eligible postgraduate qualification such as:

Eligible candidates should possess an M.Sc./M.Sc. (Tech.)/Integrated M.Sc. in fields such as Geophysics, Exploration Geophysics, Applied Geophysics, Geo-Exploration, Marine Geophysics, Physics, Applied Physics or Applied Geology.

Candidates who are awaiting the result of the qualifying examination may also apply subject to the conditions prescribed by UPSC.

Age Limit

Candidates must have:

• Minimum Age: 21 years
• Maximum Age: 32 years
• Age calculated as on: 01 January 2027

Therefore, candidates should have been born not earlier than 2 January 1995 and not later than 1 January 2006.

The ₹200 fee can be paid through the prescribed online payment methods, including Net Banking, Visa/Master/RuPay Credit or Debit Card and UPI. Once paid, the fee will not be refunded.

Selection Process:

The Combined Geo-Scientist Examination consists of three successive stages:

1. Stage I – Preliminary Examination
2. Stage II – Main Examination
3. Stage III – Personality Test/Interview

Marks secured in both the Preliminary and Main examinations are counted while determining the final merit.

Stage I – Preliminary Examination Pattern

The Preliminary Examination consists of two objective-type papers carrying a total of 400 marks.

Negative Marking

There is negative marking in the objective-type Preliminary Examination. For every incorrect answer, one-third of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted. There is no penalty for questions left unanswered.

The Preliminary Examination will be conducted using OMR sheets.

Stage II – Main Examination Pattern

The Main Examination consists of three descriptive/conventional papers, with each paper carrying 200 marks.
