SSC JE Recruitment 2026: The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has released the official notification for the Junior Engineer Examination 2026. Educational Qualification

Educational qualifications differ according to the post and organization.

Junior Engineer (Civil)

  • Candidates generally need a Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering from a recognized university/institute. Certain departments require relevant post-qualification experience for diploma holders.
  • For example, BRO accepts a Civil Engineering degree or a three-year Civil Engineering diploma along with two years of relevant experience in planning, execution or maintenance of Civil Engineering works.

Junior Engineer (Electrical/Mechanical)

  • Candidates generally require a Degree/Diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, depending on the organization. Some posts also require relevant experience after obtaining the prescribed qualification.

Junior Engineer (Telecom)

  • For the Department of Telecommunications, candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Technology in eligible disciplines including Electrical, Electronics, Electrical Communications, Computer Science, Telecommunications, Information Technology or Instrumentation.

Scientific Assistant – IMD

  • Candidates may possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Science with Physics as one of the subjects, or specified bachelor’s qualifications in fields including Computer Science, Computer Applications, Electronics, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering, Instrumentation, Information Technology, Telecommunication Engineering or Communication Engineering.
  • Candidates should check the exact post-wise qualification and experience requirements before applying. Where experience is prescribed, it must generally have been acquired after completing the requisite educational qualification; internship, training or research experience obtained during the qualification does not count as the required experience.

Negative Marking

Both papers consist of objective-type multiple-choice questions. There will be:

  • Paper-I: 0.25 marks deducted for each incorrect answer
  • Paper-II: 1 mark deducted for each incorrect answer

A scientific calculator will also be available on the computer screen during the examination; physical calculators are not allowed in the exam lab.

  • Selected candidates will be appointed to Group B posts in Pay Level-6, carrying a pay scale of: ₹35,400 – ₹1,12,400
  • The pay structure is under the 7th Central Pay Commission.
