SSC JE Recruitment 2026 – Apply Online for 1748 Junior Engineer & Scientific Assistant Vacancies

SSC JE Recruitment 2026: The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has released the official notification for the Junior Engineer Examination 2026. Through this recruitment examination, SSC will fill 1,748 tentative vacancies for Junior Engineer posts in various Government of India organizations/offices. The examination will also recruit Scientific Assistants in the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Eligible candidates can submit their online applications from 2 September 2026 to 22 September 2026. The posts are Group B, carrying Pay Level-6 (₹35,400–₹1,12,400) under the 7th Central Pay Commission.

According to the official notification, 1,748 tentative vacancies have been announced. SSC will publish the detailed post-wise and category-wise tentative/final vacancy positions separately on its website. State-wise or zone-wise vacancies are not collected by SSC.

Educational Qualification

Educational qualifications differ according to the post and organization.

Junior Engineer (Civil)

• Candidates generally need a Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering from a recognized university/institute. Certain departments require relevant post-qualification experience for diploma holders.
• For example, BRO accepts a Civil Engineering degree or a three-year Civil Engineering diploma along with two years of relevant experience in planning, execution or maintenance of Civil Engineering works.

Junior Engineer (Electrical/Mechanical)

• Candidates generally require a Degree/Diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, depending on the organization. Some posts also require relevant experience after obtaining the prescribed qualification.

Junior Engineer (Telecom)

• For the Department of Telecommunications, candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Technology in eligible disciplines including Electrical, Electronics, Electrical Communications, Computer Science, Telecommunications, Information Technology or Instrumentation.

Scientific Assistant – IMD

• Candidates may possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Science with Physics as one of the subjects, or specified bachelor’s qualifications in fields including Computer Science, Computer Applications, Electronics, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering, Instrumentation, Information Technology, Telecommunication Engineering or Communication Engineering.

• Candidates should check the exact post-wise qualification and experience requirements before applying. Where experience is prescribed, it must generally have been acquired after completing the requisite educational qualification; internship, training or research experience obtained during the qualification does not count as the required experience.

Age Limit:

The crucial date for determining age is 1 August 2026.

Depending on the post/department, the upper age limit is:

For posts with an upper age limit of 30 years, candidates must have been born between 02 August 1996 and 01 August 2008. For posts with an upper age limit of 32 years, the applicable birth-date range is 02 August 1994 to 01 August 2008.

Age Relaxation

Application Fee

The application fee for SSC JE Recruitment 2026 is: Application Fee: ₹100

However, the following candidates are exempted from paying the application fee:

Payment can be made online through BHIM UPI, Net Banking, Visa, MasterCard, Maestro or RuPay Debit Card.

Selection Process:

The selection process consists primarily of:

1. Paper-I – Computer Based Examination
2. Paper-II – Computer-Based Examination
3. Final selection/allocation based on Paper-II performance and post/organization preference
4. Document verification/eligibility verification by the concerned User Department

Paper-I is qualifying in nature. Candidates are shortlisted category-wise for Paper-II based on their normalized Paper-I marks. Final selection and allocation are based on Paper-II performance and the candidate’s post/organization preferences.

Minimum Qualifying Marks

Exam Pattern:

Both Paper-I and Paper-II will be conducted as Computer-Based Examinations.

Paper-I Exam Pattern

Duration: 2 Hours

The technical portion depends on the post/discipline selected, including Civil & Structural, Electrical, Mechanical, eligible IMD technical subjects or Telecommunication.

Paper-II Exam Pattern

Paper-II consists of the relevant technical/engineering subject chosen according to the candidate’s educational qualification and post.

Negative Marking

Both papers consist of objective-type multiple-choice questions. There will be:

• Paper-I: 0.25 marks deducted for each incorrect answer
• Paper-II: 1 mark deducted for each incorrect answer

A scientific calculator will also be available on the computer screen during the examination; physical calculators are not allowed in the exam lab.

Pay Scale

• Selected candidates will be appointed to Group B posts in Pay Level-6, carrying a pay scale of: ₹35,400 – ₹1,12,400
• The pay structure is under the 7th Central Pay Commission.

How to Apply:

Candidates must apply online through the SSC portal. The application process is:

1. Visit the SSC official website.
2. Complete One-Time Registration (OTR) on the new SSC website if not already registered.
3. Log in using the registration credentials.
4. Open the Junior Engineer Examination, 2026 application.
5. Select the post/engineering discipline for which you are eligible.
6. Enter the required educational qualification and other details.
7. Complete the real-time photograph requirements and upload the prescribed signature.
8. Upload disability certificates where applicable.
9. Preview the complete application carefully.
10. Pay the ₹100 application fee, if applicable.
11. Submit the application and keep a copy for future reference.

Candidates should note that an OTR generated on SSC’s old website is not functional on the new website. Applications can be submitted through the SSC website or the mySSC mobile application. The deadline for submitting the application is 22 September 2026 at 23:00 hours.

Candidates who need to modify their submitted application can use the correction window from 28 September to 30 September 2026.
