SBI Clerk Recruitment 2026: State Bank of India (SBI) has released the official notification for the recruitment of Junior Associates (Customer Support & Sales) in the clerical cadre. A total of 9,124 vacancies are available, including 7,680 regular vacancies and 1,444 backlog vacancies.

Eligible Indian citizens can submit their applications online from 11 August 2026 to 31 August 2026. Candidates can apply for vacancies in one State/UT only and must have proficiency in the specified local language of the State/UT they select.

State/UT-Wise Vacancy

Educational Qualification

Candidates must possess a graduation degree in any discipline from a recognized university or an equivalent qualification recognized by the Central Government.

Candidates who are in the final year/semester of graduation can also apply provisionally, provided they can produce proof of passing the graduation examination on or before 31 December 2026, if provisionally selected.

Local Language Requirement

Candidates must be proficient in reading, writing, speaking and understanding the specified local language of the State/UT for which they apply.

For Assam, the specified languages are:

• Assamese
• Bengali
• Bodo

Candidates who have studied the specified local language in Class 10 or Class 12 and can provide the relevant mark sheet/certificate will not have to appear for the local language test. Other provisionally selected candidates must qualify the language test before joining.

Candidates can apply for only one State/UT under this recruitment. There is also no provision for inter-circle/inter-state transfer before completion of five years of service, except in exceptional circumstances as per SBI’s policy.

Age Limit

The candidate must be:

• Minimum Age: 20 years
• Maximum Age: 28 years
• Age calculated as on: 1 April 2026
• Candidate must have been born between 2 April 1998 and 1 April 2006, both dates inclusive.

Age Relaxation

Cumulative age relaxation is not permitted under multiple categories.

Selection Process

The SBI Clerk selection process consists of:

1. Preliminary Examination
2. Main Examination
3. Local Language Proficiency Test, wherever applicable

Phase I – Preliminary Examination

The Preliminary Examination will carry 100 marks and will have a duration of 1 hour.

There will be negative marking of 1/4th mark for each wrong answer. No minimum qualifying marks are prescribed for individual tests or the aggregate in the Preliminary Examination.

Approximately 10 times the number of vacancies, subject to availability, will be shortlisted for the Main Examination based on aggregate Preliminary Examination marks.

Phase II – Main Examination

There is a negative marking of 1/4th mark for each wrong answer. The final merit list will be prepared based on the aggregate marks obtained in the Main Examination; Preliminary Examination marks will not be added to the final selection score.

Phase III – Local Language Test

Candidates who have not studied the specified local language in Class 10 or Class 12 must qualify the Local Language Proficiency Test after provisional selection and before joining.

Candidates failing the local language test will not be offered appointment.

Salary

The SBI Junior Associate pay scale is:

₹24,050 – ₹1,340/3 – ₹28,070 – ₹1,650/3 – ₹33,020 – ₹2,000/4 – ₹41,020 – ₹2,340/7 – ₹57,400 – ₹4,400/1 – ₹61,800 – ₹2,680/1 – ₹64,480

The starting Basic Pay is ₹26,730, including two advance increments admissible to graduates.

The total starting emoluments of a clerical cadre employee posted in a metro such as Mumbai will be around ₹46,000 per month, inclusive of DA, applicable allowances and the two additional increments for newly recruited graduate Junior Associates.

Employees will also be eligible for various benefits and facilities according to SBI rules, including provident fund, pension under the New Pension Scheme, medical facilities and leave-fare benefits.
