Eligibility Criteria:

Qualification & Experience:

  • Nationality: Candidate must be a Citizen of India, or a subject of Nepal, or a subject of Bhutan, or a Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1st January 1962 with the intent to permanently settle, or a person of Indian origin who migrated from specified countries. Candidates under categories (b) to (e) require an eligibility certificate from the Government of India.
  • Qualification: Candidate must have passed the written and practical parts of the final MBBS Examination from a recognised university.
  • Provisional Admission: A candidate who has appeared or is yet to appear in the final MBBS Examination may also apply. Such admission will be provisional and subject to cancellation if proof of passing is not produced within the stipulated time period after the result declaration of the written examination (within a 15-day window provided by the Commission).
  • Internship: A candidate who has yet to complete the compulsory rotating internship is educationally eligible to appear in the examination, but will be appointed only after completion of the compulsory rotating internship.
  • Physical & Medical Standards: Candidates must be physically and medically fit according to the physical/medical standards for CMS Examination 2026 as per regulations contained in Appendix III to the Rules of the Examination.
  • Marital Status: No person who has entered into or contracted a marriage with a person having a living spouse, or who has entered into a marriage with any other person, shall be eligible, unless exempted under the personal law applicable and with Central Government approval.

Age Limit (as on 01-08-2026):

  • Maximum Age (General): 32 Years (candidate must have been born not earlier than 2nd August 1994)
  • For Medical Officers Grade – General Duty (CHS): Maximum 35 Years as on 01.08.2026
  • SC / ST candidates: Upper age limit is relaxable by a maximum of 5 years
  • OBC candidates: Upper age limit is relaxable by a maximum of 3 years
  • Defence Services personnel disabled in operations: Maximum 3 years relaxation
  • Ex-Servicemen (with at least 5 years of military service as on 01.08.2026): Maximum 5 years relaxation
  • ECOs/SSCOs (with initial assignment of 5 years Military Service extended beyond 5 years): Maximum 5 years relaxation (with Ministry of Defence certificate)
  • Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD): Maximum 10 years relaxation
  • Candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC who also fall under Ex-Servicemen or PwBD categories are eligible for cumulative age relaxation under both categories.
  • Date of Birth accepted: as entered in the Matriculation / Secondary School Leaving Certificate or equivalent recognised certificate only. No other document for age proof will be accepted.

Application Fee:

  • General/OBC/EWS Candidates: Rs. 200/-
  • Exempted from Fee: All Female candidates, SC candidates, ST candidates, and Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD) candidates
  • Note: OBC and EWS candidates are NOT exempted and must pay the full fee of Rs. 200/-.
  • Mode of Payment: Net Banking of any Bank, or Visa/Master/RuPay/Credit/Debit Card/UPI Payment only.
  • Fee once paid shall not be refunded under any circumstances, nor can the fee be held in reserve for any other examination.
  • Applications submitted without the prescribed fee (unless fee remission is claimed) shall be summarily rejected.

Selection Process:

  • Selection is based on two stages: Written Examination (500 Marks) + Personality Test/Interview (100 Marks) = Total 600 Marks.
  • Written Examination (Part-I) – 500 Marks:
    • Paper-I (Code No. 1): General Medicine and Paediatrics – 250 Marks | 120 Questions (96 from General Medicine + 24 from Paediatrics) | Duration: 2 hours
    • Paper-II (Code No. 2): Surgery, Gynaecology & Obstetrics, Preventive & Social Medicine – 250 Marks | 120 Questions (40 from each part) | Duration: 2 hours
    • Both papers are completely Objective Type (Multiple Choice Answers). Question papers are in English only.
    • Negative Marking: 1/3rd (0.33) of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted for each wrong answer. No penalty for unanswered questions.
  • Personality Test/Interview (Part-II) – 100 Marks: Candidates qualifying the written examination will be called for an Interview/Personality Test conducted by the Commission to assess General Knowledge, academic ability, intellectual curiosity, balance of judgment, integrity of character, initiative and leadership.
  • Tie-Breaking Principle:
    • If Final Marks are equal, the candidate securing more marks in the Written Total is ranked higher.
    • If still equal: senior in age ranked higher.
    • If the date of birth is also the same, the candidate whose date of completion of Internship is earlier is ranked higher.
    • If the tie persists, it will be resolved at the discretion of the Commission.
  • The Commission has discretion to fix qualifying marks in any or both papers of the examination.
  • Successful candidates will be considered for appointment on the basis of order of merit and preferences expressed for various posts.
  • Exam Centres: 48 centres across India including Agartala, Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Bareilly, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Cuttack, Dehradun, Delhi, Dharwad, Dispur, Faridabad, Gangtok, Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida), Ghaziabad, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Imphal, Itanagar, Jaipur, Jammu, Jorhat, Kanpur, Kochi, Kohima, Kolkata, Lucknow, Madurai, Meerut, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji (Goa), Patna, Sri Vijaya Puram (Port Blair), Prayagraj (Allahabad), Raipur, Ranchi, Sambalpur, Shillong, Shimla, Srinagar, Thiruvananthapuram, Tirupati, Udaipur, Visakhapatnam.
  • Allotment of Centres is on a “first-apply-first-allot” basis. PwBD candidates can opt for their desired centre regardless of ceiling.
  • Face authentication is mandatory for all candidates at the examination venue.
  • Candidates must reach the examination venue at least 30 minutes before the commencement of each session. No late entry will be allowed.
